Now if you view the properties of this folder you might notice that it is taking up quite a bit of space.
Now, most computers today have a lot of space on their hard drives and this is not an issue. But, if you are running an older machine or a Solid State Drive (SSD), you might find this space hard to live without. Whatever you do, DO NOT delete this folder or the contents.
This folder is where Windows stores multiple versions of its components (Windows Media Player, Movie Maker, Internet Explorer, etc.) The problem with this is there is no easy way to remove the unnecessary files since they are all tied up with the system.
One way to reclaim some of that space with Windows 7 is to run the "dism /online /cleanup-image /spsuperseded" command. In the command line you can see I opened as an administrator you just type in that command.
Now before I ran this command you can see that my Size on disk was reading around 11.4 GB. This isn't too much space on my drive, but again for some of those smaller drives this is a premium.
After the command was run you can see that it took me down to 7.34 GB of space. This is a gain of 4.06GB of space.
