Dilbert for the day

Homeward Bound

After my week in San Antonio I will be leaving the nice weather to return to the cold. The benefits.. well, I will be home and that is worth all of it.

I've noticed also on this trip, less waiting at the airport, on time flights but more people shoe boxed into the planes. I guess the cutting back of flights is working...?

Reasons I like San Antonio - Texas

Now that I have been here numerous times over the course of 10 years, there are a few reasons that have been attractions for me.

1. The Riverwalk - Footpaths, gardens, and restaurant patios that line the banks of the San Antonio River. The Gondola's floating around the 2.5 miles of the canal and all the tourist just add to the fun in this area.

2. The Military City USA - With four military installations within a 20 mile radius there is just an enormous military presence here. Randolph Air Force Base and the Army's Fort Sam Houston are national historic landmarks. Jets are always flying over head, sometimes in formation, great for all of us Air Force brats and now Air Force personnel. The Army's Fort Sam has the Army Medical Department Museum, with exhibits on the evolution of military medicine from 1775 onward.

3. Six Flags - What can I say, I'm an amusement park junky, so when there is a Six Flags, I'm there!

4. Weather - I left zero degrees, wind and snow to come here, and its 70... why do I still live so far North?

5. Any state that lets teachers carry and has a good conceal carry law is okay in my book. They is also a huge push to let college students, 21 and older, with a conceal carry permit, carry on campus. And why not, some of these "kids" that have gone through these classes are more responsible with guns than criminals are.

Economic Stimulus 2009

The Economic “Stimulus”
What an awful idea!! This is why:

-Green Jobs: This is just a push to get the jobs lost to be replaced by the left’s agenda. $35 billion will go to the Department of Energy, which already has an operating budget of $23.8 billion. And, pop quiz, why was the Department of Energy created? Well, their mission is to “advance energy technology and promote related innovation in the United States.” Founded in 1977, what a great job they have been doing. Now we almost totally rely on foreign oil….

-Expanding Medicaid coverage: Socialized Medicine here we come. This will make the government responsible for more health care spending than the private sector.

-Family Planning and birth control for immigrants and KIDS. This opens the door for Federally funded abortions, how does this help the economy? *Last checked this was pulled because Pelosi deemed it not to help the economy… no kidding!

-$87 Billion Medicaid bailout: Now the Feds are going to match State spending dollar for dollar. So now we can add bailing out states and giving them incentive to keep up with irresponsible spending. Oh, and the best part, now we are paying twice as much for this broken program.

-Some other caveats in this “stimulus bill:” $600 Million for Government Cars, $650 Million more in DTV Coupons, $50 Million for the National Endowment of the Arts, and the best has to be the $200 Million set up for repairs on the National Mall. Given the situation after the One’s Inauguration, over 100 tons of garbage where all over the National Mall. In comparison only 40 tons were gathered from Times Square on New Years.

Take on Me: Literal

80's music is not my favorite, some is okay in small doses. It is always fun when it gets made fun of.

Air Force One

Just watched a National Geographic special on Air Force One, what an awesome plane. I've only seen the planes that take this designation twice in person. Once on a visit to the Air Force Base I lived on, and the other was September 11th. This is the coolest Fighter Plane in the world, as far as I'm concerned.

Challenger: April 4, 1983 - January 28, 1986

On this day, January 28th, 1986. NASA lost Challenger, and with it the lives of the STS-51-L crew. Media coverage of the accident was extensive and I will never forget watching it happen live while sitting in class that morning. Today Challenger is in our memories and will always reside as a testament to human determination to reach the stars.

SLEEP

Insomnia is not fun. Now that I have had a weekend from hell, my sleep schedule is all out of whack.

Saturday I woke up at 5am and didn't sleep until Monday at 12:15am. Then Monday night I went to sleep at 8pm and woke up at 6:30am. Now, Tuesday I was still tired but tried to stay up and crashed at 8pm - 10pm well in that "nap" I must have screwed something up because now I cant sleep! It's Tuesday and its ...early, late whatever!

Jeff Dunham - Achmed the Dead Terrorist

This guy is great and this is one of my favorite characters. So what if it is offensive.

Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act

Introduced from a Democrat from Ill, shocking I know. HR-45 is another one of those gun bills that could potentially change the way gun ownership in this country is handled, for the worst.

"all handgun owners to submit to the federal government an application that shall include, among many other things: a photo; an address; a thumbprint; a completed, written firearm safety test; private mental health records; and a fee" Keep in mind this is just to get licensed!

San Antonio

Now I get to go away for some LINUX training in San Antonio on the Riverwalk. The temperature is suppose to be in the 70s all week and that is just fine. I will be leaving weather in the teens and snow, so that will be a nice break.

Tax Payers Money

Now that I'm an (unwilling) investor, and you spent $100,000 on this ad in the New York Times ... where is my dividend check Chrysler?

Air Force

Off for a Guard Drill this weekend.

Raptor

This is one of the coolest planes I have ever seen. I you get the chance to see one doing aerial stunts you will know why this plane costs $337 Million. With the rise of China and the redevelopment of Russia, there is still a need to maintain air superiority. And here it is....

This could be a problem

With videos like this getting over 2 million hits online, it really is no wonder Microsoft is in trouble. This is the way the promotion should be for the Microsoft Surface. I wonder if the 5,000 jobs had anything to do with this products development?

Conceal Carry

I am so glad that my State is setting a precedence with the right to carry.

"The AG office released an opinion last week that states that cities cannot ban lawful permit-holders from carrying their concealed weapon in a city or village in its entirety."

Shelby Ultimate Aero

Alternative vehicle's have been all the rage for years. What is stopping them, well oil of course. When your making a killing selling a product why would you want someone else to succeed.

Now if you go into their home and introduce something that could kill the oil industry for transportation, that takes some serious brass ....

"In conjunction with the release of its 2009 Ultimate Aero at the Abu Dhabi International Motor Show, Shelby SuperCars announced details of an electric version of this same car, due to be launched in the second half of this year. We hope the oil barons of Abu Dhabi took the news graciously, as Shelby's move seems kind of like walking into a convention of cigarette makers and announcing a cure for tobacco addiction."

Software Keys

A necessary evil I know. But when you spend over $100 on software and then don't use it for a while, finding the key is difficult. Just before I rendered my Pinnacle Studio's discs targets, I finally found the software key.

Internet Explorer

I am not a Mac, I am a PC lover, but for the life of me, I cannot understand the logic of Microsoft sometimes. Some of their products do make life difficult.

That is why I prefer Open Source stuff.

The Most Fun

"I like it a lot."

I finally got one after all of the hype and all of the publicity, just to see what the rave was about. I now see that the Wii is truly the future of gaming and more fun than I ever had on the Atari or original Nintendo when I was a kid.

So far I have to say Call of Duty: World at War is my favorite with the Zapper.

Geithner on Tax Returns

"I should have been more careful." Wow, how enlightening.

Madam Secretary

Congratulations to our new Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.

Gun Control

Gun Control is a bad idea on so many levels. Just ask Monk.

My Advice

Do not open the emergency exit on a plane, and then walk out on the wing, unless it is an emergency.

District of Columbia

I’ve been there in the Spring. I’ve been there in the Summer. I’ve been there in the Fall and the Winter. I can only imagine the chaos, the crowds, and the trash with this many people crammed into an area the size of 61.4 Square Miles.

Wireless Power

What a great idea! It has been around for a while, as anyone with a power toothbrush can attest.

This would finally clean up my office to my wife’s liking.
